FAQ: Visas
- How can I obtain a visa?
Read about applying for
a visa.
- Is there any way I can influence/speed up the visa
application procedure at an embassy, either for myself or on behalf
of someone else?
Following the procedures of the relevant embassy is the best way to
ensure that your application is processed as efficiently as
possible.
- Can I invite someone to come to the Netherlands from
abroad?
First of all you will need to determine if the
person requires a visa. If so, he/she will have to meet certain
conditions.
- For what countries is a Schengen visa valid?
The visa is valid for the entire Schengen Area: Austria, Belgium,
Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain,
Sweden and Switzerland.
- What do I need to invite someone/be a guarantor for a
foreign visitor?
That depends on why you are inviting the person to the Netherlands.
If the visitor intends to stay for a period of longer than 90 days,
he/she will need to apply for an authorisation for temporary stay
(MVV). You can find all the information you need on the website of
the Immigration and
Naturalisation Service. If you are inviting a person who
requires a visa for a stay of less than 90 days, you should write a
letter of invitation.
- How can I apply for a residence permit?
The procedure for obtaining a residence permit depends on a large
number of factors. You can find all the information you need on the
website of the Immigration and
Naturalisation Service.
- My application for an authorisation for temporary stay
(MVV) has been approved, but the embassy still hasn’t issued the
document. Why is that?
It’s possible for an applicant or host to be notified about the
decision on the MVV application before the embassy. An embassy
cannot issue an MVV before it has received notice of official
approval.
- What conditions are attached to the issue of a
multiple-entry visa?
Read about applying for a
visa.
- As a Dutch national, when do I need a visa?
If you travel outside the European Union, you may need to apply for
a visa. To find out if this is the case, please contact the embassy
of the country/countries you intend to visit.
